Styling your home is such a fun task and the more you do it - the better you become at it! If you want to easily create vignettes for your home that are aesthetically pleasing, there are just a few simple rules to follow:
#1: Throw out all the rules - do what you love - fill your home with things and people you love - life is too short to live without beauty - don't be afraid to use ordinary items in unexpected ways - vintage items and antiques create history and depth to your home's decor
#2: Grouping items in odd numbers - particularly groups of three- are more aesthetically pleasing than grouping items in even numbers
#3: Create a tiered affect by using items of three different heights - add books or boxes to give items height - lay an item on its side to decrease the height
By following these 3 simple tips as outlined above, you will be on your way to styling your space in a sophisticated way that you'll love for years to come! Pictured above is a vignette I created for one of my clients using a demijohn and glass carafe that she purchased while living in Europe. Her room also needed a fan for air circulation (gotta love these older Northern Virginia homes!), so I added in an industrial table fan that was stuck in the back of a closet to finish out the styling. The setup evokes a vintage look that is unique to the homeowner's unique life story. It almost feels like you are transported back in time. If you are in the Northern Virginia area and are in need of some interior styling in your home, I offer reasonable rates and use things that you already own to create an entirely new look for your space.
