In my decorating, I strive to use objects I already have lying around my house. I really hate it when I have to go out & buy something new for the sake of one decorating vignette as its just too much pressure to find the right thing. Its much more enjoyable to simply stumble upon decor items that I really love in an organic way in odd places and to only purchase for our home what we really, truly love. Buying things for my home in this manner has really allowed me to reduce unnecessary purchases and only cultivate the objects that have tremendous personal meaning to our family. During our time in Europe, I picked up this adorable china tea set from England. Over the years it has been used in service during fancier adult occasions and even imaginary tea parties for my girls and their stuffed animals. I try to use these objects in my decor whenever possible, so when I stumbled upon these spider mums at a flower market last week, I knew immediately that the purple color would go perfectly with the black and white scheme in the tea set. I love this little vignette as the somber black & white colors really make the purple flowers boldly pop. As with any vignette, a tiered height placement and an odd number of pieces are key to a pretty decor. I simply made this arrangement by cutting the stems of the flowers down to about half their length and sticking them into the teapot. The pot was then filled with water and a splash of Seven Up soda to keep them fresh longer. What can you create with what is simply laying around your house? I would love to hear your ideas and see what you have come up with too! Happy Designing!
