Whenever our little family ventures to Downtown Washington, DC, we always try to find a fun place to dine that not only has great food but great ambiance, as well. This past week, we tried out The Hamilton on 14th Street NW, and we were NOT disappointed. Not only are the cocktails deliciously made with offerings from smaller craft distilleries, but the food is superb, as well. I had the Belmont Manhattan, made with Kopper Kettle Whiskey from Belmont Farms here in Virginia and the hubby had the Hamilton Mule, which was quite tasty & refreshing. Our appetizer, the sauteed calamari, was recommended by our amazing server, Stephanie (who has a most awesome name, by the way). It was cooked perfectly & paired nicely with the sauce that came with it. The kids even ate the calamari with gusto, which is really something in our book. For our entrees, the hubby had the crab cake, our oldest had the meatloaf, and I ordered the tuna bento box. Everything was really tasty & right now this is my favorite place for sushi so far in DC. Stephanie explained that they receive their fish fresh daily, which is super important to this blogger - originally from the coast - as I can usually tell pretty quickly if a restaurant's seafood is fresh or not.
I really enjoyED dining at The Hamilton. The food was great, cocktails were amazing, and the staff was attentive and informed. A warm, intimate feeling exudes upon your arrival at The Hamilton. Dark and brooding wood paneled walls, art-deco fixtures and contemporary art by artist Hunt Slonem bring an eclectic vibe to the interior that really brands the restaurant as honoring the old classic appeal of DC while also displaying everything that's fresh and modern about this beloved city. I would love to go back one night when they have live music as I'm sure that changes the vibe completely. Its proximity to Pennsylvania Avenue and the White House make it a great lunch spot to visit while touring the sites or conducting business meetings, as well. If you're looking for a great spot to really enjoy a nice lunch while downtown DC, you must visit The Hamilton not only for the amazing cocktails, wonderful food & great service, but for its design-centric interior, too. Visit The Hamilton online here to see all their offerings & upcoming shows. Happy Designing!
