As an artist, I love to create pieces that have deeper meaning and allow the viewer to see the world in a different way. This piece, a sculptural book art endeavor, was inspired by a quote from Oscar Wilde - which goes like this:
“With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?” - Oscar Wilde
Books are inspiring to me. I love the way the pages feel between my fingers and the slightly different smell each one of them has, almost like a fingerprint. There is magic in books and creating art from them is one way I seek to express myself. There are many elements within this piece that present themselves to the observant eye. One part of the piece explores moon phases, while another is a 3 dimensional representation of a moonlit scene (also made of book pages). On the bottom left corner, you will find Oscar Wilde's quote, and a blocked out poem in red reads, "the moon shining through shadows giving a faint glow." On the top right of the piece, the book displayed reads, "A Talent That Whispers," so on the side I've written, "Shhhhh."
These book art sculptures take quite a few man hours to produce, but the creative outlet that I receive is well worth it. This book art comes ready to hang and can be found on my ETSY shop here at PaperCanvasEtc. I love creating pieces from found pieces and objects that many people would just throw away. I promise that no classic literature was harmed in the making of this piece! Go live your day, ponder the wonder around you & as always, Happy Designing!
