I don't think anyone's Christmas would be complete without reading or watching some version of "A Christmas Carol." Charles Dickens, author of such works like the aforementioned Christmas tale, "A Tale of Two Cities," "The Adventures of Oliver Twist," "Great Expectations," and "David Copperfield," is the inspiration for today's Etsy treasury. The somber Dickensian mood is created by black, dark tones in metal & wood, lithographic prints and elements inspired by beloved ole England. Charles Dickens battled indebtedness and poverty, which obviously inspired his work and called attention to those in society at that time that were being grossly exploited by the system they lived in. I enjoy how literature can serve as social commentary and a barometer for certain ills in society, Good writing can be a vehicle for change that needs to happen in culture, which Charles Dickens needs to be applauded for.
