Today, we use ETSY to decorate the home of J.M. Barrie, author of everyone's favorite children's book, "Peter Pan." I don't know of anyone who hasn't read the book or seen the movie, "Peter Pan." What many people don't realize that tragic events led to the writing of this classic children's book
J.M. Barrie's life was riddled with sadness and loss. As a boy, his young brother died and he was saddled with caring for his mentally ill mother. As an adult, he had a failed marriage and many friends, who passed away. He raised the orphan sons of his friends, the Llewelyn Davies, after their untimely deaths. "Peter Pan," was created from the stories he entertained those boys with. As the children grew, even each of them met untimely deaths, too, as they all died in their early 20's leaving the author alone again.
I imagine the author would have had a big imagination, but I think he would also have been a rather serious person due to all the tragedy in his personal life. His interiors would absolutely reflect this. I think Barrie's home would have a masculine navy blue color palette mixed with various metallic accessories. His furniture would have a stately English flair, and they would be mixed with various whimsical touches that allude to his unbounding imagination. I love the intertwining of heavy antiques with abstract art and playful accessories. Follow the link to J.M.
