I don't see how anyone could possibly have anything bad to say about Beatrix Potter. She was really quite amazing. She contributed so much to the world and that's why we've featured her in our Classic Author Curated House Series on ETSY.
Beatrix's childhood was lonely and secluded. She filled her time observing animals and learning to paint them. As she matured, she also started writing and creating characters to go with her artwork. The Peter Rabbit series was born out of a challenging childhood and Beatrix Potter's commitment to literature and art. I think that is why I love Beatrix Potter so much. I really enjoy the integration of literature and art she achieved in her lifetime. One cannot imagine the prose of Peter Rabbit without the enduring artwork that accompanies it.
Beatrix Potter was also a committed conservationist as well and bequeathed large portions of farmland to an environmental trust to protect it from development upon her death in 1943. A savvy business woman who enjoyed nature, Potter remained financially independent all her life after the commercial success of her books.
Potter's love of nature is reflected in this curated treasury. We have paired a subtle green and white color scheme with distressed finishes to achieve a shabby chic aesthetic. Upholstery items slipcovered in romantic white linens are a great partnership with the animal themed accessories, which add whimsy and playfulness to the decor.
