Some keep the Sabbath going to Church
Some keep the Sabbath going to Church –
I keep it, staying at Home –
With a Bobolink for a Chorister –
And an Orchard, for a Dome –
Some keep the Sabbath in Surplice –
I, just wear my Wings –
And instead of tolling the Bell, for Church,
Our little Sexton – sings.
God preaches, a noted Clergyman –
And the sermon is never long,
So instead of getting to Heaven, at last –
I’m going, all along.
This is one of my favorite poems by Emily Dickinson. I remember reading it for the first time in high school and having the words cling to my heart. I love Emily and her poetry, and they have both been a source of inspiration for me ever since. I love how nature inspires her work as it does mine. It simply made good sense that she would be my next author in my Classical Dead Author ETSY Treasury collection series. I take classical authors and poets and try to imagine their personality. Then, I curate a collection of items found on ETSY for their homes. I have a lot of fun with this, and will often throw something in there that makes me chuckle. (Of course Walt Whitman would have an "I'd rather be writing" pillow on his couch!). I believe Emily would decorate her home with traditionally feminine overtones, pastel colors and naturally inspired motifs with a little hint of Shabby Chic. I also enjoy helping out other craftspeople on ETSY by hopefully helping them gain exposure to their work.
